What are symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive)

Hyperthyroidism, which is when the thyroid is over-productive, and produces too much thyroid hormones, can include the following symptoms:

  • Mood swings
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Weakness
  • Sleeping issues
  • Tremors
  • Sweating
  • Heat intolerance
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Tiredness
  • Weight loss
  • Frequent bowel movements
  • Eye irritation or bulging eyes
  • Menstrual irregularity
  • Enlarged breasts or erectile dysfunction in men
  • Thinning of hair
  • High blood sugar
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased urination

Usually when someone is experiencing an over-productive thyroid, they have a hard time maintaining weight and are very high energy most of the time. We’re producing too much cell fuel in this state so it’s kind of like we’re mashing the gas pedal to the floor all day.
